This type of insurance is required if you are doing paid work, this is in place to protect you from third party claims that are taken place by customers, clients and members of the public.

Issues that can occur that will protect you under these circumstances are for example if a client was injured while you are on a shoot. This is because you were the person in charge of the situation. If a person is injured, either on location or in your own studio, the public liability insurance will cover all basis. The insurance company will pay the claim and you will not need to.

There may be situations where a client will request that you have public liability insurance as a condition while working with them. It is an important cover to have when advancing your professional practice.

During being required to research and understand public liability insurance, It was recommended to me to look into Hiscox. Hiscox is a highly regarded insurance company that many photographers use.

Professional Indemnity Insurance:

Professional indemnity insurance is in place for businesses who offer their professional services or advice. This covers mistakes that you were responsible for and that has resulted in the client suffering a finical loss (or claims to). Most clients and companies will request that you have professional indemnity insurance therefore, it will benefit your business and help it grow.

Employers' Liability Insurance:

This insurance is implemented from the moment you become an employer. The policy is required to cover you for a minimum of £5 million and must come from an authorised insurer.

Employers' insurance will pay compensation if an employee of yours is injured or becomes ill as a result of the work that you required them to do.

The fine that is issued if you do not display or refuse to show your employers' liability insurance to inspectors is of £1,000.

The only policy that you are legally required to have if you have a small business is employers' liability insurance (EL).
